The emergency first aid at work course aims to provide guidelines and a course of actions that have to be taken if any injuries or hurts are caused during work or otherwise. It is generally designed to make a person eligible to provide first aid in the absence of an actual first aid provider or doctor if any unfortunate incident arises. Any person of an organization who deems himself to be fit to take charge as an emergency first aider may apply for the course to be a certified, first aid provider. The Emergency First Aid at Work course is also known as EFAW Course.
Eligibility for the Course:
A learner must be aged 16 or above. Learners also need a basic command of English also defined as Level 2.
Duration of the Course:
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is a one day course where a person seeking to get certified is taught a series of subjects. The one day course runs from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a single break in the afternoon. After the one day course, a learner is awarded a certificate that allows him to be a first aid provider.
What subjects are to be covered under the EFAW Course:
There are various aspects of the course, covering a wide range of areas. The following factors are thoroughly explained in the course:
- Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Dealing burns and scalds
- Choking an adult in case of emergency
- Learning communication and casualty care
- how to respond to Defibrillator prompts (theory-based)
- Defibrillator pad placement (theory-based)
- Minor and severe bleeding and treatments
- Role of the first aider (including knowledge of health and safety regulations)
- Seizures & suffering from shocks
- Dealing an unresponsive adult.
The course also adds the following information on areas of;
- Assessment and monitoring of a casualty.
- Where to call for emergency help.
- What to do in case of electrical incidents.
- How to record and respond to an incident.
- COSHH, The control of substances hazardous to health.
By the end of the course, a learner will be able to deal with how to prioritize injuries and the cases of emergencies. Such a person will also be able to provide immediate medications to an injured person. The course will also enable learners to assess any person in case of sub consciousness and if needed, a proper way of carrying out CPR of such a person if there is no or low breathing. It also boosts confidence and skills in learners with respect to providing first aid in emergencies. The course can additionally add the first aid of children and babies if it is necessary and a requirement of a learners’ job.
Certification after the Course:
It is mandatory to get a certificate after the completion of the course. In fact, it is necessary for getting a certificate to attend the one day course. After the course of one day, a continuous assessment and an objective type exam is also to be taken by the institute. The certificate of EFAW is valid upto 3 years after which it expires. To renew the certificate, the one day course is to be attended again in order to refresh the already instilled knowledge regarding Emergency First Aid. It is pertinent to mention here that no additional fee is charged for the certificate. Our
Purpose of EFAW Course:
Since the course is suitable for workplaces with up to 50 employees, it is important for such persons who are willing to take this course to make themselves able to tackle emergency situations. The primary purpose of the course is to enable workers at study institutions or corporations to take first aid measures if any emergency situations arise and o first raiders are available. The course provides learners to give first aid assistance to anyone who is injured or hurt at work. A series of illnesses and hurts are taught under the course that enables the learners to learn about the sudden illness or hurts. As mentioned already, additional training in other areas with respect to learners’ workplace requirements is also given if needed. The course is important for all the people who are either working in a low-risk sports environment, corporate, retail or educational sector.
The course is indeed an important certification that should be taken by every person these days. As it is quite evident that a low-risk environment may cause injuries or other illnesses to any person and to cope up with such a situation is a limited and narrow time, it is important to have knowledge about first aid. The EFAW Course provides all measures that can be undertaken to mitigate emergency situations right away.
